Impact of Psychological Dimensions of Psychosomatic Status on Potential Competitive Performance in Cross-country Skiing

چکیده
The purpose of the study was to establish the values of the variables of the psychological area in predicting the potential competitive performance of cross-country skiers. The psychological area, encompassing 24 variables, was studied within the model of potential performance MMPS. The sample consisted of 48 cross-country skiers of three competitive categories. The expert modelling procedure was used to obtain the scores of the potential performance of the subjects at all levels of the psychological area. An analysis of correlation between these scores and the actual competitive performance criterion (SLO_FIS) showed that the psychological area in all three competitive categories of subjects was differently but statistically insignificantly correlated with their competitive performance. The average scores of individual psychological dimensions increase gradually with the subjects’ chronological age, however, there are some deviations possibly resulting from the not yet stabilised psychological structures. The monitoring of the average scores of the subjects’ potential competitive performance in terms of psychological variables by different age category can predict a regular development trend in the psychological make-up of cross-country skiers.

Physiological demands of competitive elite cross-country skiing
Researchers have, for decades, contributed to an increased collective understanding of the physiological demands in cross-country skiing; however, almost all of these studies have used either non-elite subjects and/or performances that emulate cross-country skiing. To establish the physiological demands of cross-country skiing, it is important to relate the investigated physiological variables ...
متن کاملOveruse injuries in cross-country skiing.
Cross-country skiing has always been one of the most popular winter sports in Scandinavia (Eriksson, 1976). Although downhill skiing has become more and more popular during the last ten years, cross-country skiing is still the most important mass sport in Finland. The number of competitive skiers has been increasing owing to the fact that the younger age groups as well as the veteran series hav...
متن کاملAnalysis of Classical Time-Trial Performance and Technique-Specific Physiological Determinants in Elite Female Cross-Country Skiers
The present study investigated the contribution of performance on uphill, flat, and downhill sections to overall performance in an international 10-km classical time-trial in elite female cross-country skiers, as well as the relationships between performance on snow and laboratory-measured physiological variables in the double poling (DP) and diagonal (DIA) techniques. Ten elite female cross-co...
متن کاملA Comparison of Frontal Theta Activity During Shooting among Biathletes and Cross-Country Skiers before and after Vigorous Exercise
BACKGROUND Previous studies using electroencephalography (EEG) to monitor brain activity have linked higher frontal theta activity to more focused attention and superior performance in goal-directed precision tasks. In biathlon, shooting performance requires focused attention after high-intensity cross-country skiing. PURPOSE To compare biathletes (serving as experts) and cross-country skiers...
متن کاملA simulation of cross-country skiing on varying terrain by using a mathematical power balance model
The current study simulated cross-country skiing on varying terrain by using a power balance model. By applying the hypothetical inductive deductive method, we compared the simulated position along the track with actual skiing on snow, and calculated the theoretical effect of friction and air drag on skiing performance. As input values in the model, air drag and friction were estimated from the...
